Iowa's Supreme Court
The Iowa Supreme Court is an appeals court. It reviews verdicts from the trial courts for appeals. The Supreme Court makes these decisions based on review of the proceedings and briefs from the original trial and no new evidence is received. There are no new trials in these cases. If it determines that major legal errors were made, it will overturn the previous decisions.
The Supreme Court is the highest court in Iowa and its verdicts are final and binding on all lower courts in the state. It also oversees all attorneys in the state and all rules and procedures for the courts in the state.
